The firm was founded in 1947 as Smith, Kronzer & Minter, and its practice today is concentrated in the areas of public law and public finance, typically with respect to the creation and representation of special districts, generally within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Houston.
The firm also has represented cities, including the City of Houston, school districts, and other entities with respect to tax-exempt financings. We currently represent in excess of 100 special districts, with the vast majority of them located in Harris and surrounding counties.

In the past decade, the firm has served as bond counsel to hundreds of transactions and has occasionally served as counsel to the underwriter, issuer, trustee, or other party.
Smith, Murdaugh, Little & Bonham, L.L.P.’s practice involving statutes and regulations related to public finance and to the structuring of real estate transactions has significantly aided the firm in creating and representing a number of different types of special districts. The careful planning and representation of such districts, from as small as 65 acres to over 10,000 acres, has laid the legal groundwork for public improvements critical to the development of numerous residential and multi-use real estate projects throughout Texas. The firm also represents individuals and corporate clients in business and administrative law matters, particularly in relation to the development of real estate in the State of Texas.
